From the very first minutes, I was challenged by the filming method and representation of time. The shaky camera, much like the relationship between Cornelia and her son Barbu, the way it had to follow the action, the fact of wanting to be as close as possible to reality by representing the time in real-time.
It is a contradictory mixture of ellipses and actions shown in their continuity. I was touched by the loneliness of this woman, and her desire to control everything. This is what made her a powerful and intriguing character. This created her strength and her limit, since this is what stifles her son, and which will allow her to face him, therefore creating links. In this short movie, I purposely wanted to leave the character in her loneliness. Through the fictional aspect, I wanted to keep the idea of following the character with the camera.
The Manufacture of Namur
THE WORKSHOP
"The Manufacture of Namur is born from the will of the Festival to look to the future and the young generation for its 30th edition. This workshop brings together 15 students from 15 film schools from the four corners of French-speaking countries [...]
Each student was asked to pay tribute to a classic of the French 7th Art, awarded at FIFF by delivering a short film. A "carte blanche" was given: a remake of a particular scene, a reinterpretation of the subject, or a free evocation of the film."
